Our Mission

We weren’t kidding when we said we took in a lot of medical cases last week- meet Aurora! This sweet girl is just a puppy and was found last week unable to use her back leg. The finder brought her home to help, but she quickly started vomiting. The next day when we saw a post about her, we offered to help. So we took over care and rushed her to the hospital. Luckily, they were able to get her vomiting to stop and no blockages were seen in radiographs. However, her leg showed multiple old fractures that had healed incorrectly. Because of this, her leg was healed straight outwards, and she lost use of it. The fractures were beyond repair, and the vet recommended an amputation to get this girl on a good path. Her amputation surgery went well, and she is now resting in a foster home. At just 6 months old, she’s already adjusting quickly and is full of love and kisses. Here’s to her new beginning! A belated Happy St. Patrick’s Day from one of our newest saves, Aoife (pronounced ee-fa). This sweet girl was posted wandering and needed obvious help for her skin. Who remembers the mamma Candy and her singlet baby Cane we saved from the city shelter right before the winter holidays?! Well mama Candy has officially been adopted! Scroll through to watch how much Cane has grown. Candy found herself in the city shelter unknowingly pregnant. She surprised the staff and gave birth to two puppies, one surviving. The shelter is a dangerous place for a newborn puppy with no immune system, so we agreed to take on mama and her baby. They thrived in foster care together. Once Cane was weaned, he went to foster with other playful young dogs so he could learn proper socializing since he didn’t have littermates to learn from. Candy just transported to our rescue partners, Gal’s Best Pal, in Massachusetts where she had an incredible adoptive family waiting on her, and it was love at first sight. ADOPT ME: Imani the special needs French Bulldog puppy is now ready to receive adoption applications! She is available locally or out of state, but please make sure to read all info here and in her bio before applying in order to be considered. Imani is a 4-month old pup who came to us with a condition called atresia ani. This means she had only one opening for her urine and bowel movements. This condition can cause UTIs and other infections. We agreed to take on her case. She saw a specialist who set a date for her surgery. She has now successfully received atresia ani surgical reconstruction to create a second opening and reroute her bowel movements. It was very successful, and she is doing amazing! She will have one follow up procedure first week of March. After this, she will be ready to be adopted! Currently, Imani is not showing signs of incontinence. However, post-adoption, the adopter must be prepared to take on any possible complications or future needs Imani could need. We cannot guarantee what her prognosis with the condition is, but we do know she is thriving right now! So we ask any adopter to be understanding that she is, in fact, a special needs pup and will need some special care! Right now that consists of wiping her with baby wipes and that’s about it! Our perfect babies Genghis, Beanie, and Wilbert officially made it to Chicago today! They are safe with our rescue partners (and good friends) at @dtranimalfoundation. Our rescue team spent a lot of time and hard work to get these three to the medically stable and healthy point they are now. And we are so thankful for the next part of their journeys. Getting adoptable dogs out of Texas and to northern states allows us to continue to save more lives. Yesterday, we were able to post an amazing transformation that unfortunately started just like our newest rescues are at right now. Meet Barbie and Ken, and make sure you’re following us to see their glow-ups, too. This morning we got a message about a starving and scared puppy found in a gated neighborhood. Not chipped, nobody claiming. We made it there quickly and, surprise, there were two. A brother and sister. Just puppies. Ears cropped by someone who wanted them to look a certain way yet didn’t care for them. So now they have injured ears and are emaciated and just struggling to survive. These two are absolutely as sweet as you can imagine. They love to be held and love to give kisses. They have hair loss, scabs, and clearly have been without food for a while. Barbie is in worse shape than Ken, but she is still energetic and showing good signs of recovering. They’re both going to be fed slowly with small meals throughout the day to prevent “refeeding syndrome.” They went to the vet today to get checked over, and Barbie got some fluids to help kickstart her rehydrating. Right before the new year, we actually managed to squeeze in another medical rescue that we hadn’t posted about yet! Meet Socks! The day we were heading to visit Mittens at the hospital, we got a call about a puppy with a broken front leg. He was so much tinier than we expected and clearly in a lot of pain but still the sweetest boy. We took him right up to see the same surgeon who was working on Mittens. Luckily for Socks, the fractures didn’t need surgery! Due to his age and where the small fracture was located, the surgeon decided his best course of action was to splint and cast it and put Socks on limited activity while he heals. He stayed at the hospital for a few days to make sure the leg was healing as expected and then was sent to his foster home. He’ll go back in a week for another check up, and we hope everything continues to heal as it should! #CFFsocks #caitiesfosterfam

Update on Candy and Cane, the mama and baby pair we just pulled from the shelter before the holiday. They’re both doing great! Cane is a plump little baby who is thriving with his mama’s care now that she can relax out of the shelter. Candy is starting to come out of her shell more with her fosters and acting like a pup. She knows “sit” and has ignored other animals she’s seen through gates. But she’s still being given plenty of space to decompress and care for Cane, so we can’t wait to see their personalities come out more! This pretty girl was brought to the city shelter where she initially found a shelter foster. A few weeks later, she unexpectedly gave birth to two puppies, with one surviving. The foster did not feel equipped to foster a mama and newborn, so they were taken back to the shelter. They were placed on the euthanasia list since a shelter is not a healthy place for a newborn. That’s where we heard about them for the first time. Meet Candy and Cane! This perfect pair, mama and her 4-day old son, are now safe with one of our fosters. Candy is a little stressed, so we will update with more pictures and videos once she’s had some time to settle and care for her baby outside of the shelter. You did great, mama Candy. Ebenezer checking in! He’s absolutely loving the pampered life in his foster home. His fosters say he is just the sweetest and goofiest boy. He is still quarantined from the other dogs while healing a bit but has tried to make friends through the gates and can’t wait to meet everyone. The streets of Houston are cruel to dogs of all breeds. And it was no different for our newest intake, Ebenezer. He was soaking wet wandering the streets when a rescuer spotted him. They pulled over, and he ran right up and jumped in their car. We agreed to take him, and our fosters took him right to the vet. He is not microchipped, underweight, and clearly has some skin infections. We are seeing bulldogs more and more in rescue. The breed has many known medical concerns, needs proper skin care, and a lot of extra cleaning. Please do your research before getting a bulldog, just like with any breed. Where are they now? Snickers edition! We rescued Snickers off the euthanasia list back in August of this year. He was tiny and suffering from a horrible case of mange. He went into an amazing foster home who worked hard to help him thrive and heal into the pup he is now. Fast forward to last week, and Snickers was able to catch a ride to Massachusetts to our rescue partners @gals.best.pal where he was adopted! They kept his name and have been raving about how amazing he is. He is already signed up for puppy classes, and we know he will be a rockstar student. At the end of September, the Houston SPCA took possession of 49 exotic cats and 1 dog that were found in deplorable conditions at a property after the owner had passed away. The cats and kittens were mostly Bengals and of course got a ton of interest very quickly. Meanwhile sweet Squishy continues to get overlooked. Helps us find this handsome good boy an adopter of his own! As a rescue partner that helps the SPCA, we took on Squishy and brought him into a foster home. He has been doing amazing and is such a happy boy. At less than a year old, he still has some puppy energy but also knows how to relax. He was raised around many cats, so he has shown friendliness to not only all the other dogs he’s met but cats as well. He’s shorter/“squattier” than he looks in pictures and was told to be a “micro bully mix.” Squishy is food-motivated, does great in his crate, and even learned to do some obstacles! He would love a fur sibling to play with but would also be fine being the spoiled only child. Squishy is fully vetted, so he is available for applications in Texas and out of state. Two tinies but mighties are officially ready to start looking for their forever homes! ❤️ Giblet and Boo came to us with their own unique stories and yet somehow the similar stories we see all too often. Luckily, we were able to provide support and care for both babies who have grown big and strong. At just 6 weeks old, little bitty Giblet is the wiggliest happy guy. He is a Shih Tzu, and we think he's going to be a fluff ball when he's fully grown. Giblet came to us when he was a brand new baby. He also has a cleft lip and a possible cleft palate. Boo is a 2-month-old American Bully mix who was born with a cleft lip. Don't let his small size fool you because his appetite for food (and fun!) is mighty. Boo is the cutest and always excited to play with his foster fur siblings. Boo has been sweet with the people, kids, and dogs he's met so far. He's happy little guy with plenty of spunk. Because of their clefts, each future family will need to have a water tower vs water bowl, and will have to supervise them during any and all feedings to make sure nothing get stuck until able to eat and drink on their own. Genghis wanted to say thank you so much to everyone who sent some love his way! This weekend was the first we’ve seen some progress in his bowel movements, and we are so excited about it. His personality is starting to come out a little more, and he absolutely loves snuggles and attention. Our goal for him is to keep slowly gaining weight, build back up his muscle mass, and keep his poop nice and solid. Gentle giant Genghis got groomed yesterday and unfortunately now we can see just how skinny he is. He’s eating well, on prescription food, metro, and probiotics. Now we just need to clear up his bowel movements and get some weight on those bones. He was, of course, the best boy for the groomers. And he’s loving couch time with his fosters. Once owned and loved, this gentle giant has been absolutely struggling since the loss of his human dad. He lost a lot of weight quickly. He is unable to eat without it going right through his poor body, and he is overall lethargic. Thankfully, the family was pointed our direction for medical help and we agreed to take him on. Genghis, we’ve got you now buddy. Genghis is a Tibetan Mastiff who, at only 78 pounds, is extremely underweight. He is sweet and calm and a total love. But he’s got a long way to go. At his vet visit today, Genghis got x-rays and bloodwork to help rule anything out. He’s on medication for his upset stomach and prescription food. She is now doing amazing in her foster home. She is a snuggly, sweet, tiny Bulldog mix about 2 years old. Phoebe Bridgers was dumped in her foster’s neighborhood and luckily scooped right up into their care. She is the sweetest young girl and has been a blast. At our adoption event, she was the star of the show and happy to say hi to everyone then hop right back into a lap for cuddles. Monkey had to have enucleation surgery to remove an eye after being attacked by another dog. He doesn’t let it slow him down, though. He is a good boy with so much love to give. He’s a chihuahua mix estimated about 10 months old. All three dogs are now fixed, up to date on vaccines, Heartworm negative, and medically ready to find their adopters now! Gigi is thriving in her home with her family. Her fur has grown back and she’s learned to trust humans again. She is full of joy, romping around and enjoying life in Massachusetts. Gianna's mama tells us that she is such a good girl! Super smart, figuring out her body and her bearings. She is loved to pieces! Gwen's new name is Busy, because she is quite the busy girl! She's learned to go up and down the stairs, sit, come, and respond to her name. She’s attached to her fur sibling Goose, and has started secretly snuggling on the couch when her humans nap. Jubilee is spectacular! Her adopters say she's the best and that they couldn't be happier. She's come out of her shell and is making friends all over. Gabby, now named Josie recently had a celebration for her 1st birthday. She's quite the sweet and smart girl. She's been working with a trainer and picking up new things quickly. Jamboree hit the jackpot! He was adopted by rescue friend who is a phenomenal trainer and behaviorist. Jam-Jam has been a good boy in class, learning obstacle courses with jump boxes. He’s thriving! Cavalier, now named Asher, lives in Vermont and goes hiking! He's having the time of his life trekking through rivers and nature with his family! Yaddle won over hearts from the getgo in our program, and it's been no different with her new parents! This happy girl is living the good life and getting endless love and cuddles. ADOPT ME ❤️ Paula girl is a dream dog, and she's officially ready to be in her forever home! This sweet gal is a lover, a social butterfly, and a loyal companion to her human who she longs to stay close to. She's learning that it's okay to have alone time as well, and that her persons will always come back to love on her. Since being in her foster home she has really come out of her shell and learned to trust again. Belly rubs are accepted at any time and she especially loves chew toys and high reward treats. Cozy snuggle times help her recharge for the zoomies. Miss Paula is making great progress with kennel and potty training, and is a relaxed passenger on car rides. She has gotten along wonderfully with other dogs, kids, and people she's met so far. She's a stunning tri-color English Bulldog with beautiful eyes that'll melt your heart. She's estimated around 2.5 years old, and sadly already had some c-sections, but no more worrying about being a mama again because our girl is now spayed. ADOPT ME ❤️ Obi came into our rescue after being surrendered with injuries to his neck and feet. Unfortunately, he had puncture wounds on his neck that looked like they could've been from a collar. The wounds have since closed up and are healing very well. This Corgi boy is estimated around 5 years old and is sure to steal your heart. He's a happy, playful, and spunky little dude who loves to gallop around the yard, ears flopping in the wind. Obi doesn't turn down scratchies and loves a good session of playtime. He has been a very well-behaved boy! Obi has done great during the car rides he's been on, and has shown good kennel and leash manners. He has gotten along wonderfully with other small and large dogs he's met so far. He's also been very friendly with the humans he's met so far, and people are just enamored by him. Meet today’s euthanasia list save: Snickers! This tiny boy is estimated about 7 weeks old and is less than 10 pounds. He was found in someone’s yard with hair loss and sores, so he was taken to the city shelter. This shelter intakes hundreds of dogs a week, so even a cutie like this quickly ended up on the euthanasia list. Luckily, his foster reached out to us saying she’d love to save him, so we said heck yes! Snickers is now safe in his CFF foster home and already so loved. He’s cozy in his jammies and ready to heal. ADOPT ME ❤️ Rue girl is ready to find her forever home! We are now accepting adoption applications. This sweet puppy came into our rescue after being hit by a car in a high traffic area. We couldn't tell the extent of the injuries until she visited with our vet partners but soon learned of internal facial trauma and that her teeth were falling out from the impact. She quickly went into surgery to repair her injuries, and has been healing beautifully. Rue continues to heal well and in between recovery rests in her kennel, she has bounds of energy as any GSD puppy would. She's an all-around outgoing girl with a lot of entertainment to provide and love to give. Rue loves socializing with other dogs and people and is always up for toys and play time. She loves cuddles just as much, especially unwinding after a good play session. This 7-month-old pup has done great on car rides, is mostly kennel trained, and is doing well with her potty training. She loves walks and does great on a leash. Rue has been great with the other small and large dogs she's met, as well as children and other people. From what we've observed, she simply loves everyone! Oh happy day with 9 new adoptions to report. 8 CFF dogs and 1 kitty are officially living in their forever homes. Sir Worf is quite the character as usual getting settled in his home with his new mama. Praline and Toffee are thriving in their new homes, both puppies growing into strong little girls. Annie girl is living a wonderful life with her new mama and dog brother. Otis has fit right into his home with his new brother Astro who is so happy to have a sibling now. We've also got a few new members of the foster fail club! Rigatoni is getting all the snuggles. Sweetie pie Maeve has a new dog sister. And miss Molly's parents have committed to working with their timid girl, putting much TLC into her as she gradually becomes more comfortable and learns to trust humans. This little Pua went into our rescue program about a month ago. This little Pua is now ready to find her home. Miss Pua, named for her Disney piggy doppelgänger, is a 2 month old Bully breed. Being a medical-focused rescue, we keep a close and careful watch over all our CFF babies and their needs. As we keep moving forward to save the ones who need us most, we mostly take dogs of differing medical and special needs. Pua is a 7-week old cutie who was scratched in the eye and surrendered to our rescue for care. She’s full of spunk and sweetness, and we love her so much already. She’s one of our 10 intakes over the past week, so stay tuned for more cuties. The vet put Pua on antibiotics and a strict care routine to keep the eye healthy until they feel she’s ready for surgery. She will have the eye removed as soon as they let us know it’s time. Meet Spock! This handsome Dobie pup with the best “smile” was seen roaming the streets for a few hours before one of our amazing fosters scooped him up to get him safe. With shelters being closed for intake and homes willing to adopt and foster down for the summer, we are absolutely drowning in requests to help dogs. Our fosters are having to keep dogs for longer than ever before due to the lack of applications for anything other than “pure bred puppies.” So we are thankful for our dedicated fosters we trust. Bella is one of them! So when we saw she saved this baby, we told her we could absolutely back him for her and support her as she fosters him. Almost every Bulldog-type breed we’ve taken in lately has needed this surgery. To. Breathe. Backyard breeders continue to overbreed unhealthy dogs with too small of nares and pass on this trait to offspring because they can sell them easily. People are truly choosing a quick buck over the ability of these dogs to even breathe. Absolutely heartbreaking. Be mindful of where you’re getting your dogs from. Purchasing a dog from a “rough life” does not save the dog. Instead it puts money back in the pockets of those breeders to continue. We love a reminder through all the hard parts of rescue that most of these sad stories have happy endings/new beginnings like this one: Mistletoe is adopted! Back in December, we saw a post about a mama dog seeking shelter in a pipeyard. She had puppies that were all given away, but mama was still out there. It was set to freeze that day, so we rushed out to save her. Mistletoe was timid at first and took some time to learn the good life. She’s estimated only a year old, yet according to the vet who did her spay today, she has multiple c-section scars and her uterus was so damaged. She can’t breathe. They could barely even trach her for surgery. Her nares are so small that we have a scheduled stenotic nare surgery to make sure she doesn’t die early just from inability to get oxygen properly. She has horrible ear infections, a hematoma causing one ear to flip down, and fungus all over her. Yet she’s had multiple litters. She’s passed on this genetic mess to offspring. All because people are willing to pay thousands for dogs who look like her. We ask that today you remember how many mills and backyard breeders are behind many of those purebred dogs. People choosing money over quality of life. Remember the mamas. And that they deserve to live a wonderful life and not as a baby-making machine with zero care themselves. After our sweet senior Buddy Boy was adopted so quickly, we were asked to help a few more seniors. Meet Ernest the senior Yorkie and Reggie the senior Dachshund. Gumbo is a bite case. In the dog world, that’s typically a death sentence. He’s not a “typical” pet, and he requires work. But he deserves every bit of it. And just like with our medical cases, we never make decisions lightly, we are transparent, and we give them the best chance. Gumbo has spent four weeks so far in a board and train with a very trusted trainer. We are extending his stay because we still do not feel he is ready to be adopted or go to a non-trainer home. He’s a good dog. He loves to play, and he adores other dogs. He doesn’t know how to express or handle his emotions. He’s a typical stubborn Bulldog. He is learning to head to his “place” stay when he gets overstimulated rather than express those emotions with his mouth. He has a long way to go, but he is making progress. Bite and behavioral cases are so tough and are not our usual intake. Give us a crazy medical any day, but behavioral is throwing us for a loop for sure. These dogs deserve us to give it our very best, so we are doing just that. We don’t know what Gumbo’s future holds. In our ideal world, he continues to blossom in training and then goes to an amazing and understanding adopter who will continue to work with him. So far we have spent around $4,000 on his training. Just like with major medical, we choose to do every step we can before considering euthanasia. I know Gumbo isn’t the typical sad-looking medical case to raise funds, but he needs them just as much. A few weeks ago, Bregman was found on the side of the road dumped in a bag. He was covered in mange with a broken back leg. At just a few pounds, we can’t believe someone could just throw him out like trash. This week he had surgery to fix his leg and is doing great! He will transport to our rescue partners in Massachusetts @gals.best.pal to be adopted once his leg is healed and fur has grown back. When we transport pups from our rescue, we allow our foster homes to open up quicker to allow us to save more dogs. After initially seeing the neurologist, we saw some progress in Archie walking and acting like a puppy. Unfortunately, that quickly stopped, and he regressed tremendously. Today while at the specialist hospital, he started having seizures. We made the painful decision to end his suffering. Sharing her words below as she said it so well. “Does it get easier? No, it never will. When you find your love for special needs animals the pain comes with it. What happens when there is nothing left to do? When medical intervention cannot save them? You hold them close, you allow tears to cover their fur and kiss them as they transition to a new world. Pepper Jack is a Persian kitten who came into our rescue as a baby with colon issues. The vet determined it could have been congenital or damage by a littermate when young. Regardless of how it happened, he needed immediate vet care. After spending so many weeks in and out of specialists and a few necessary emergency visits, Pepper Jack is doing great. Good morning from Kyla! Look who is doing great today! Yesterday we got pulled this beautiful 9-week old puppy from the shelter after she was found with a swollen muzzle. Luckily with some medication, the swelling has gone down drastically already! We’ll keep an eye on her but she’s otherwise acting like a happy, healthy puppy. Poor Kyla was brought to one of our shelter partners with this huge swollen face. They think she was stung by a bee and had a reaction. We immediately sent in a rescue tag, and this baby is now safe with a foster. She’s doing great so far and not having any complications. There were no puncture marks seen, so the shelter ruled out a snake or other type of bite. #CFFkyla #caitiesfosterfam

Do you have a plan for your pets if you were to pass away? Sadly, Buddy Boy’s owner passed, and Buddy had nowhere to go. He ended up at the shelter, though he was clearly very loved and cared for throughout his life. Buddy Boy is an 8 year old Dachshund who is just sweet as can be. We kept his name, and he sure knows it! We quickly scooped him from the shelter, and his foster mama took him on a nice spa day for a bath and nail trim. He’s now relaxing at home with new foster fur siblings and all the bed cuddles he could imagine. We do not know the owner’s circumstances and our hearts break for Buddy losing his family. Shenzi the dancing pup is doing great and was finally ready to be neutered today! Look how much that fur is growing back. Still looking a little like a hyena but more like a pup every day. Oh, Ophelia. Sweet mama is doing great. But we are so sorry to let everyone know that despite the fosters working around the clock, we lost all four of her babies. The vets think they likely had some congenital issues and could be why mama struggled so much to deliver them. Ophelia immediately rejected her kittens after an emergency c-section. We gave her some time to settle, but she would try to hurt them and would not let them get near to nurse. So we moved them all to an experienced neonatal kitten foster. However, they just did not make it. Fading kittens happens quickly, and we are so glad we gave them a chance no matter the outcome and so thankful for the fosters working so hard to try and save them. Rest in peace, little babies. May this be a reminder to everyone to please fix your cats! Ophelia is settling well with her fosters. She is likely relieved and went from hissing and scared at rescue (understandably so) to now allowing pets. It has been a very busy week with many new intakes and lots to update y’all on. We’ll start by introducing Kramer, a 5 month old French Bulldog with a rectal prolapse (graphic image warning at the end). A local shelter reached out to rescues about an emergency medical intake, so we scooped him and took him straight to the emergency hospital. The prolapse was likely due to untreated parasites. He had a purse string repair, so we are now on watch how he recovers with a good diet and proper care. Kramer is safe at a foster home now after being released from the hospital where he can rest and recover. #CFFkramer #caitiesfosterfam

Meet Shenzi! The newest pup (nope, not hyena) in our rescue! This handsome silly boy was found as a stray and clearly has a lot of skin issues going on. ADOPT ME! Meet Belle, the mini Bernedoodle with Hydrocephalus. Yes, we know she is absolutely as cute as can be. But please read all below before applying to adopt. Belle is a 2.5 month old mini Bernedoodle. Her parents were toy poodle (8 lbs) and mini Bernedoodle (35 lb). So she will be a smaller girl full grown. She was born with a bigger head and bulging eyes, so her breeder got it looked into and discovered the open fontanel, aka Hydrocephalus. The breeder reached out to us to help ensure the best future with this girl with medical care and an adopter instead of selling her. And we are so thankful they did! They even sent a baby book and a donation to the rescue. Luckily, Belle has been doing great! She went to the neurologist who confirmed she is mostly asymptomatic. However, this could change as she ages. Because of this, we are looking for an adopter comfortable with medical and local to the Houston or surrounding areas. She is set up with a local Houston neurologist, so if she ever has further symptoms (like seizures), she would need to be able to get back to the neurologist here. Just a thread of some of our recent saves! We’ve been busy behind the scenes. Did you know we sometimes also intake non “medical case” dogs? As a volunteer- and foster-based rescue, we rely completely on fosters in order to say “yes” to dogs. In order of pics, meet: Teach, Hutch, Pugsley, Trixie, Jolene, the Weasley litter, and Cheeto! Teach, Hutch, Jolene, Cheeto, and Trixie are all very different dogs who have one main thing in common. They were all found as strays in Houston, not microchipped, and no owners claimed them. These 5 are safe with their fosters now and will receive medical care prior to being adoptable. More to come on each! The Weasley pups’ foster saved them all from the streets right before the freeze, just to find out they all had Parvo. They’ve since beaten the virus and are happy, healthy pups! Pugsley was an owner surrender and is a tiny, 8 lb deaf Boston Terrier. He’s a spunky little boy and has gained healthy weight since coming to us. These 7 pups will be heading to Massachusetts later this month to our partners at @gals.best.pal to find homes. Ice Cream Sundae is as sweet as her name and ready to start accepting adoption applications! This fun girl was found next to a dumpster, but her luck has totally turned around. She’s doing great with her fosters, has been spayed and fully vetted. She’s a typical bulldog with spurts of play energy followed by many naps and snuggles. As with all Bulldogs, she will need care for her skin and any other potential medical as it arises later in life. Sundae is Heartworm positive and is on track receiving treatment. Rescue is an absolute roller coaster. Started as a great day with some sweet new intakes and finding a lost adopted pup (Grogu), and then of course medical hits us like a train. Colby Jack (CJ) has been showing some neurological concerns, like circling, so we got him in for an MRI and visit with our neurologist. Unfortunately, the results showed extreme Hydrocephalus. He’s getting started on medication to help relieve symptoms and pressure on his brain. CJ has an amazing foster who watches him around the clock and will continue to monitor his quality of life. Ice Cream Sundae has had an eventful few days but is slowly settling into her foster home. She successfully passed foreign objects including a screw and her x-rays are now looking good. Unfortunately, her x-rays also showed pretty advanced arthritis. We also found a mass on one of her legs that will be removed and biopsied during her spay. Sundae is a sweet, loving girl who will be adoptable once completing some more medical. Meet Ice Cream Sundae, a sweet name for a sweet girl who has already had a rough go in life. Sundae was posted numerous times over the course of a week on Facebook. The posts mentioned a dog spotted hiding behind a dumpster. The posts mentioned she was in distress and possibly pregnant. We are tagged in so many posts daily and somehow never saw hers. Luckily, a foster of ours saw one of the posts and ran right out to grab her. She took her straight to the vet where we learned she is luckily not pregnant but has so many other things going on. Her stomach is full of junk that she’s likely been eating to survive, lost and confused on the streets. She has a possible tumor on her hind leg, C-section scars, was covered in fleas, Heartworm positive, and an overall mess. But she’s gotten started on medications, a good bath, and all the love she deserves. Sundae did not have a microchip and has been posted over a week as found. Unfortunately, bulldogs are becoming increasingly more common as a popular dumped breed. They are being bred regularly and then dumped when no longer of “use.” Or people are not doing their research on the breed and can’t afford their expensive medical care. Please reach out to a rescue if you find yourself in a position of need rather than dumping a dog to fend for themselves. Kahlua is coming home!! After her CT scan and other diagnostics, the neurologist is now leaning toward a viral or bacterial infection like meningitis. Their best guess is that the bullets lodged in her brain and caused the infection. The best news is that the seizures seem to now be under control. We are still waiting on some results to move forward with treatment, but things are looking in the right direction. Hoping for some quick answers on bacterial that can be treated and for no lasting complications. But Kahlua gets to enjoy the holiday in the comfort of her foster home, so we couldn’t be happier. Kahlua’s CT scan, diagnostics, and emergency stay cost upward of $7,000. Specialist bill attached. We know the holidays are an expensive time, but every single dollar helps. Kahlua was found as a stray 12 days ago and has not had any other medical symptoms while in her foster home. She is with specialists now at the veterinary hospital and is still having sporadic focal seizures. We don’t have any answers or diagnosis yet, but they ruled out toxicity since she has been there a while and they can’t get the seizures to stop. They believe it is from an infectious disease like distemper, but it’ll take a few days to get test results back. Their focus right now is getting the seizures to stop. Her prognosis is very guarded, and we are heartbroken. Come on, Kahlua. Specialist visits are expensive, so we truly appreciate every single donation. Colby Jack, aka Pepper Jack’s best bud and one of our newest special needs intakes, is a blind Shih Tzu puppy who is having a tough start to life. He’s at the emergency vet now and could totally use all the good vibes. He was surrendered to a vet’s office who reached out since we have helped them with similar cases before. He started crashing today, so his foster mom rushed him to the hospital. He’s so young and fragile, so we are very worried about him. His foster mama is the true hero here. She is fostering both Colby Jack and Pepper Jack (the special needs Persian kitten). She has been in and out of hospitals and vet visits all week to give these two their best chance. Colby Jack will likely be staying at the hospital overnight, and Pepper Jack has an internal medicine specialist visit tomorrow. Hoping for good news for all soon! Kahlua’s story is one we hear about every single day. She is sweet and adorable and likely owned at one point. Then someone decided not to care for her anymore, and she found her way to the cruel streets. Thankfully, her story will have a better ending than many because she was taken in by a kind family who posted about her. We got tagged in her post and got her to the vet hospital. There they noticed a wound on her head and did x-rays that showed bullet fragments. Someone shot this poor baby in the head with bbs or something similar. Emaciated and starving, she likely tried anything and everything to find food. Kahlua is home with her foster now resting comfortably. She will only know the good life from now on. He came to us as a surrender at just a few weeks old due to his cleft lip. Cleft lip and cleft palate puppies should not nurse from mom or from a bottle, they should instead be tube fed. Luckily, an awesome medical foster with us scooped him up and tube fed until he could be weaned and go to our wonderful puppy foster (who kills it with the pictures). He may have major angry resting face but don't let that throw you off! He is a sweet happy little puppy. He loves to cuddle and loves to EAT! Garbanzo has a spunky little attitude that will for sure keep you smiling and laughing. He's still very small so he's not potty trained or command trained yet, but he is very food motivated so I'm sure will be a quick learner! He lives with other dogs and has been great with them! Garbanzo has a cleft lip though no cleft palate at this time. It is possible, though not likely, that he could develop a cleft palate as he ages. We believe he will continue to adapt well to the cleft lip and not likely need surgery, but this is something to keep in mind. Please mention you understand this when applying to be considered. ADOPT ME: Winky is a Siamese (mix) cat who was born with an eye issue. After several pleas for help by the original finder went unanswered on social media, we were able to step up to provide her with the proper medical care she needed. Princess Winky had the eye removed and has been healing beautifully. She's been navigating well with her new view of the world, and she doesn't let a thing slow her down. Winky is even more gorgeous in person, and such a sweet girl who is just full of affection. She is a little over 1 year old, loves humans, and will be all kinds of chatty with her person - she will sweet talk you if she has to! Oh happy day! We’re over the moon to share that miss Sandy aka “Lil Red” has made her way to her forever home, and we could not have found a more perfect happily ever after for her. Now named Summer, this girl gets to stretch her legs out on acres of paradise in Driftwood, TX along with her furry new dog and cat siblings. Her mama is already spoiling her with all the love and land to explore. After being picked up from the Houston streets and coming to us malnourished with her ribs showing and half of her hair missing, Summer has made some long strides and is looking healthier than ever, and we can’t wait to watch her continue to thrive. Meet April, one of our newest intakes! This cutie pie came to us quite scruffy and itchy after she'd been roaming the streets eating trash and an independent rescuer reached out to get her to safety. The poor girl was severely matted and covered in fleas but has since gotten preventative treatment and a bath, and is feeling much less itchy. April is estimated to be a young pup, maybe a year old, and such a sweet girl who has been loving on her foster mama and enjoying the company of her foster fur sibling. She's gotten along wonderfully with the other people and dogs she's met so far, though she is a little overstimulated when first meeting a new dog on a leash so her foster mama is working with her on slow introductions. She is playful and has great energy, loves toys and food, and is learning some basic commands and manners. Only one week in with proper nutrition and much-needed TLC, she is already more comfortable and looking better. April is Heartworm positive, but treatment is covered by the rescue. We just know that she's going to shine even more as the days go on. Cleo’s foster mama describes her as an amazing companion who absolutely loves to play and snuggle. Magnificent Mandy has had quite the transformation thanks to her amazing fosters! Mandy was found wandering the streets with a prolapse. We scooped her up and got her to the vet who repaired it. However, it didn’t get better. We got a second opinion who immediately noticed that Mandy actually had TVT, an easily treatable yet contagious cancer. After months of treatment and required quarantine from other dogs, Mandy was finally cleared! Outside of medically feeling so much better, Mandy was beyond excited to finally get to play with other dogs. She’s the cutest low-rider and happiest girl.
