Founded in May 2021, we are a non-profit 501(c)3 rescue made up of animal-loving individuals. Our team consists of animal rescuers who have been making a difference in the lives of homeless pets for over a decade. We each started as volunteers and fosters, specializing in medical needs cases. Because of the high demand for more medical fosters and rescuers, we decided to join together and start our own non-profit rescue. We are an entirely foster-based organization, so we do not have a physical shelter. All animals are kept in loving foster homes.
Our founder, Caitie, has been fostering medical cases in the Houston area for over ten years.

This Giving Tuesday, we are taking a look back at what your donations have done. Your donations make the difference for so many pets in need. As a medical-focused rescue, we have always made it a mission of ours to help those “who need us most.” Often that means dogs or cats that would otherwise be euthanized due to financial constraints on shelters, other organizations, etc. Because of your support, we have been able to give so many of these a chance and save so many lives. 680 lives to date. We know there are so many options for your money this year and that finances are tough all around. But we hope if you are able, you consider a donation to helping us continue our mission. The amount of animals who needs us is somehow only growing, so we don’t plan to stop saving those we can. If you can donate even $1, no donation is too small. “Thank you” doesn’t even come close to enough words for being the reason we can pursue this passion and save medical dogs and cats in need. Y’all are the best. To support us this Giving Tuesday: Venmo: caitiesfosterfam Cashapp: $caitiesfosterfam Caitiesfosterfam.org/donate #caitiesfosterfam #rescue #foster #givingtuesdayButton

Harper got a full work up at the vet hospital, including a blood panel, eye exam, x-rays, and more. She’s in even worse shape than we imagined. Harper has a nickel-sized mass on the roof of her mouth, a grade 3/6 heart murmur, is potentially anemic from the fleas, and was wheezing upon exam. We are still waiting for results from the blood panel and x-rays, but we wanted to give an update as soon as we could. For Harper’s eye, we wanted to clarify that we would never rush a surgery out of convenience. We always decide what is best for the individual animal based on vets and specialists. Upon the eye exam today, they suspect a corneal abscess. They recommend attempting treatment with eye drops and pain medication. We will follow up to check if it is chronic, which would mean the eye would need to come out, or if it will heal with proper care. At only 6 lbs and 5 years old, Harper is going to need a lot of TLC. But we are all here for her now. To donate to Harper’s growing vet bills: Venmo: caitiesfosterfam Cashapp: $caitiesfosterfam Caitiesfosterfam.org/donate #CFFharper #caitiesfosterfamButton

Earlier this week, a rescue friend reached out to us about someone trying to surrender their cat to a rescue. They said she’s 5 years old and was used as a breeder but is no longer of use to them. They sent a picture of a healthy-appearing cat with no eye issues. Today, we picked her up. And she’s far from healthy. I won’t use this post to bash them. I promise no one is more frustrated by this than we are. We weren’t told anything about her condition and were shocked when we got her. But bashing them won’t help her. What will is focusing on what we can do now. She will likely need the eye removed. She is thin, her fur is a mess, and she’s covered in fleas. We now know she was kept outside. No more, sweet girl. We have you now. Meet Harper. To donate to Harper: Venmo: caitiesfosterfam Cashapp: $caitiesfosterfam Caitiesfosterfam.org/donate #CFFharper #caitiesfosterfamButton

Back in 2019, a woman and her husband came to my house to adopt one of my foster puppies. She loved learning about fostering, wanted to get more involved, and soon became the medical coordinator for the rescue I was fostering for. When I founded Caitie’s Foster Fam Rescue in 2021, she offered to come help, and I couldn’t have been more ecstatic. Cameo has been my right hand woman and a great friend ever since. If you’ve ever had a vet appointment made from the rescue, needed medical records, or worked with us in any capacity, you know just how much Cameo does for CFF. She takes hundreds of calls from vet offices daily on top of answering foster questions and fostering at least one to two dogs at her personal home, too. She works full time, is a volunteer firefighter, is the CFF medical coordinator, and is now getting her vet tech certification. She never misses a community spay/neuter event, and she has a heart of gold. In short: she’s a bad ass. Thank you, Cameo. For all you do every day. The Houston rescue community is so lucky to have you. You never ask for praise, but you deserve every bit of it. PS the Sphynx in the first picture is named Egg Salad, and he will be adoptable soon!Button

Our pug babies Grinch, Cindy Lou, and Martha May are three weeks old today! They’re all three gaining, but our Cindy Lou is much smaller than her siblings. Keeping an extra close eye on her. Their foster is working hard to get them weaned and eating on their own. It’s an uphill battle for orphaned babies, but we love seeing them reach that 3-week milestone. #CFFgrinch #CFFcindylou #CFFmarthamay #caitiesfosterfamButton

MISSING CFF ALUM! Klif (FKA CFF Cliff) was adopted from us in 2021. He has a loving family who wants him home! We were just made aware today that he went missing 11/10. He is wearing a purple collar, no tag. He is microchipped. DO NOT CHASE. If spotted, please call the number below immediately or email us at info@caitiesfosterfam.org. Please do not just IG message us as we cannot keep up with DM requests and it could be lost. Please share and help us bring Klif home!Button

Two weeks ago, Charlotte found herself in a shelter after her human passed away. She’s coming around in her foster home but has a ways to go. Charlotte is pretty overweight and has a bit of a cough she’s battling. We did bloodwork to make sure there’s nothing causing the weight. Her kidney levels were off, so we are repeating later this week. She’s definitely missing her human, but her foster parents are doing everything to help keep her spirits high. She prefers only to be hand fed rotisserie chicken (like the queen she is), and she loves to sleep on the bed right next to them. Hopefully we can get some answers about her kidney levels and get her cough cleared up soon. #CFFcharlotte #caitiesfosterfamButton

Oh, Maggie girl. Your time with us was so limited, but we hope you know just how loved you were. Last month, one of our amazing fosters, Stacy, saw Maggie’s shelter post and offered to save her. She was listed as a senior girl with a lot of unknown medical issues. But we said yes, let’s do it. So Stacy brought her home for the most love Maggie has probably ever known. Maggie’s skin healed up nicely. She loved her comfy bed and PJs. But unfortunately, we got the news that her masses were cancerous. Due to the severity of her cancer that had metastasized to multiple organs, she declined quickly. She spent her last month being loved unconditionally. And she left this world being held by her favorite human. To Maggie’s foster: we are so sorry. Thank you for opening your heart and home to a senior girl, no matter the outcome. Thank you for letting your heart break so she could know love and comfort. Rest easy, Maggie girl. We all love you forever. #CFFmaggie #caitiesfosterfamButton

Grab your tissues. This one is heart-wrenching, but let’s start with the good news: this senior girl is safe. Charlotte was 9 years old when her human passed away. She was there with them, and it took a week for them to be found. She stayed by her human unwaveringly. She cried out when taken from them. There was no next of kin to claim her. So she was sent to a shelter. Luckily, the shelter went to work being her voice and reached out to rescues. When I got the email, my heart broke. Our fosters, Kim and Donny, stepped right up for her. They got her from the shelter yesterday, and she’s safe now. She’s scared and understandably stressed. She acts confused and doesn’t want to be alone. We will make sure she gets all the best care and finds an amazing adopter. To Charlotte’s human: she’s safe. She’s loved. She will be taken care of. I hope you somehow know this and can be at peace. We know you loved her. And we promise to do our very best for her. Charlotte is getting her full vetting today and lab work done to make sure there aren’t any hidden worries behind her chonk-ness. ADOPT ME: November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month, and Simba is a senior who is ready to find his forever! caitiesfosterfam.org/adopt Simba is officially past his stray hold, and we are surprised that owners never came forward. While we don’t know the story of how he ended up a stray, we hope his former owners are okay and know that he’s in good hands. We will do everything we can to find him amazing adopters. If you think that could be you, please fill out an adoption application! Simba is a sweet senior boy who loves to be in your lap at all times. He’s a clingy cuddle bug, so his ideal home is someone who works from home or can take him with them. He is Heartworm negative, neutered, and doing well. However, he is a senior boy whose jaw gives him some issues and has a heart murmur. We are already getting an echo done and will continue to update any interested adopter on his health status. We are hoping for good news with the echo and that he has many years left. As with any senior adoption, we don’t know how long that is, but we know he deserves a loving home no matter what. We are accepting local and out of state apps for this senior boy! Apply at caitiesfosterfam.org/adopt #CFFsimba #caitiesfosterfam #adoptme #adoptaseniorpetmonth #adoptaseniorButton

Our three orphaned pug puppies are hanging in there. Meet Grinch, Cindy Lou, and Martha May! Because they lost their mom so early on and before they came to us, we are absolutely fighting an uphill battle with them. But we will remain optimistic and continue to give them the best possible care. Brachycephalic (flat nosed) breeds are at a disadvantage because of how easily they can aspirate (get milk in their lungs). We don’t know if they aspirated at all prior to coming to us, so we will be watching for that. Their foster mama is working hard, and we know they are in the best hands. Send them and their foster all the good healing vibes and love! #CFFgrinch #CFFcindylou #CFFmarthamay #caitiesfosterfam #thegrinch #pug #rescuepugButton

Today’s early morning emergency rescue: newborn pug puppies. Sadly, a mama pug passed away shortly after giving birth to five puppies. Wanting the best for them, they reached out to rescuers for help. Brachycephalic puppies (like pugs, bulldogs, etc) are extra tough as they’re known to aspirate from bottle feeding which can be fatal. One of our most trusted neonatal fosters reached out to us offering to foster them, so we said yes to helping. Newborn pug puppies do best with tube feeding and around the clock care. Our foster is already going to be fighting an uphill battle to save them, but they have their best chance now. Happy Halloween from Howie and Holly the house hippos! At under thirty pounds each, these two squatty pups are even smaller than they look. Howie (white male) and Holly (tan female) were brought into the city shelter after being confiscated from horrible living conditions. Their owners had moved, leaving them behind in a porch with no food or water. They have been in loving foster homes now and will never have to wonder where their next meal will come from ever again. Unfortunately, both are Heartworm positive and will require Heartworm treatment on top of their general vetting. Please consider donating a few dollars to help us cover their treatments. A huge part of saving dogs in the rescue community is communication from shelters to rescues. Since those of us in rescue are asked to take dozens more dogs a day than we have space for, we often get bogged down in emails and tags on social media. It can make it overwhelming and hard to sort through. One of the most helpful things for us is when volunteers go into the shelters and send intentional messages to fosters and rescues when there’s a dog who they know might be a good fit. And that’s what happened with Simba. Our friends at @houstonpetset went to the La Porte shelter to take pictures of dogs in need. They took these pictures of Simba. While there, they sent pictures and information about how sweet Simba is to one of our fosters. She fell in love right away, and messaged us asking if we could take him into the rescue. So we said yes! Simba is now in his foster home and doing great. He’s going to the vet today for bloodwork and to start his overall vetting. He’s perfect with his little tongue out and all. #CFFsimba #caitiesfosterfamButton

ADOPT ME: It honestly doesn’t get better than this beautiful, adoptable boy. Meet Hoagie! Hoagie was found under a house with a leg injury, and he was immediately happy to be rescued. He’s met cats, kids, and dogs of all sizes and at 45 lbs is such a fun size and a sweet gentleman to all! Hoagie would make a great family member for any family, whether it’s just you or you have a houseful. He loves to play, is great in his crate, and hasn’t had any potty accidents. He’s been healing well from FHO surgery and is ready to start trying to find a forever home! Hoagie is neutered, microchipped, up to date on all vaccines including ProHeart injection, and he is Heartworm negative. He can be adopted locally or out of state. Post-surgery update on Maggie girl! Her surgeries to remove three tumors went smoothly. However, her skin is still very rough in spots. So the vet determined it best to wait to spay until her skin has had a bit longer to heal. The good news is Maggie’s foster is picking her up tomorrow so she can heal in her foster home. She has a cozy bed, pajamas, and lots of goodies waiting on her thanks to all of you who donated from her wishlist. Thank you for helping us love these babies so well. Rest up and heal, Maggie girl. You’ve got a team behind you now. #CFFmaggie #caitiesfosterfamButton

Krull (the warrior king) is officially available for adoption! Caitiesfosterfam.org/adopt This sweet hairless pup was posted on a neighborhood facebook page wandering door to door. We figured surely his owners were looking for him and would scoop him up. When we checked back on the post hours later, they said he was still outside. We went and picked him up and went around knocking and asking if anyone knew his owners. When we kept hitting dead ends, we decided to keep him safe in a foster home while we kept up the search for the owner. We left our information with neighbors in case they heard anything. Two weeks have passed, and we still haven’t heard from any owners. He is not microchipped, he was posted on NextDoor and Pawboost, and we tried in person. So we are now accepting local adoption applications. If you believe Krull is your lost dog, please email us ASAP at info@caitiesfosterfam.org Krull is estimated to be a little over a year old. He is fostered with other dogs and cats. He’s a sweet boy who loves to snuggle his humans. He’ll tell other dogs “no” if they get near his food or toys, though, so he’s got some spice to him, too! At just about 5 lbs, he’s a smaller boy. He’d be happiest carried around everywhere and sleeping in your lap. As a hairless breed, he requires extra care for his skin and adopters should be aware of their special needs. Apply to adopt Krull at caitiesfosterfam.org/adopt #CFFkrull #caitiesfosterfamButton

Maggie has been at the vet hospital since we pulled her from the shelter on October 6. She is finally doing well enough to go in for surgery today. She will be having lumps removed and sent off for biopsy. She’s been a happy girl who loves to eat and loves human affection. Despite her outward appearance and conditions, we do believe she has not only current quality of life but will continue to improve. We are hoping the lumps are benign but won’t know until that biopsy comes back in about a week or two. No matter what, she deserves all the love and spoils she will get in her foster home. Ireland’s progress has been slow. She still has a lot of missing fur and needs to gain weight. But she is loving life in a foster home with her plentiful pajama collection, and she’s in a good place for healing. A few weeks ago, Ireland found herself on the euthanasia list at a shelter due to her medical condition. But we’re glad she ended up there, where we could find out about her, get to know her personality thanks to the volunteers, and then tag her for safety with our rescue. Often these dogs are left on the streets as they further decline. So thank you to the shelter and volunteers, without whom we wouldn’t have been able to save Ireland. #CFFireland #caitiesfosterfam #pittiesinpajamasButton

Maggie is hanging in there at the hospital, but we keep learning about more issues going on in her poor body. On top of the hair loss and skin issues, she is Heartworm positive. She has barely any teeth left. She has bad hips and is favoring her front wrist. She has three large lumps. There are two large, hard lumps and one soft one. They have taken x-rays of her entire body and will start there to evaluate what is next. She is receiving pain management to be comfortable while we learn more about prognosis. We are taking it one step at a time for this sweet girl. Hoping for benign lumps and easy treatment so she can get to her foster home. When will it end? The requests to save dogs that nobody else will. The requests to take on the “unwanted.” Another mange, senior pittie at a shelter. Don’t worry, Maggie, you are so wanted now. We’re so happy to help you, but we wish there was a world in which you never ended up like this. Maggie (formerly called Leona at the shelter) is estimated about 9 years old and is having a tough time. With barely any fur and sarcoptic mange, her skin is a mess. The shelter noted issues with walking, and she wasn’t wanting to even stand for the staff today. Luckily, one of our fosters said she wanted to save her, so we sent in our rescue tag. We don’t yet know what the future holds for her, but Maggie is now on her way to a vet hospital. When the shelter volunteers know your type and send you a mange pittie mix puppy in need, you scoop that baby into safety! Meet Ireland. This beautiful girl was found in a drainage ditch and has a bad case of mange. She was brought into the shelter but needed a medical rescue’s help. She’s estimated to be less than a year old. “Little Man” was originally purchased from a puppy mill shop and the family struggled with his health for months. The pet store had been shut down and other puppies confiscated by a nearby shelter, so the family made the decision to surrender him to that shelter to make sure he got the care he needed. One of the employees took him home determined to get him through and help him heal away from the noise and chaos of a shelter. And that’s where we heard about him and agreed to intake. On his first day in foster care, Little Man (who earned his name as he is the only man of the house) was underweight, lethargic, itchy, did not appropriately walk without collapsing on his front legs, and generally was a sad boy. Two days later the shelter tested him and realized he had sarcoptic mange, which he quickly shared with his foster mom. After the appropriate medical treatment, rehabilitation to strengthen his legs, love and socialization from his sisters, he has grown into his own and become the spunky Little Man he is today. Little Man is looking for a loving home where he has at least one sibling to rough house with (he’s used to 60+ lb dogs as his foster has 8 big dogs!) and a family that encourages him as he continues to come out of his shell. He currently has some retained puppy teeth that might need removed (and the rescue will cover), but this shark boy is working on redirecting his nips on toys and bones and is otherwise healthy now. Little Man enjoys time running in the yard to chase his sisters, chomping on toys, naps, and, of course, food! Her favorite thing in the world is to snuggle and be lazy. She loves her kennel and will happily go to bed in it to relax. Today is a tough day. We made the decision to bring Rhaenyra home for palliative care. Rhaenyra has been hospitalized since intake two weeks ago. After getting a lot of diagnostics back and watching the post-transfusion PCV trending patterns, which consistently dropped critically low every 5-7 days, we finally got some answers. Rhaenyra has bone marrow dysfunction confirmed by bone marrow testing. There are a few things that can cause this, but the prognosis is not good regardless. It’s not a matter of if but when her PCV drops again. So rather than continuing to be in pain and suffering, we brought her home to relax. She’s going to be spoiled and comfortable while she rests. We are going to watch her for signs that she is uncomfortable and then make the tough call. When she’s ready, we will be here to let her go peacefully. Being a medical rescue means taking on these tough cases. And this case ended up being a quicker hospice than we are used to. But we are thankful we get to spend this time with her and make sure she knows how loved she is and how much she matters. #CFFrhaenyra #caitiesfosterfamButton

Rhaenyra is doing well! She seems to be responding to treatment of the ulcer. Her PCV (red blood cell percentage) is 27. It was 22 yesterday, so it’s rising. However, the pattern has been a slow rise then she crashes after about 5 days. So we have chosen to keep her at the hospital through the weekend at a minimum to see if her PCV will stay rising and not drop again. The other test results don’t necessarily let us know one way or the other if there’s an immune issue going on, so we are proceeding with cautious care. The hope is her levels stay high, and we don’t have to worry further. She is eating and drinking well and overall in good spirits. Everyone just calls her the sweetest girl! Shout out to the vet staff at both hospitals for helping us with Rhaenyra and always being so great with updates. #CFFrhaenyra #caitiesfosterfamButton
-
Rhaenyra update: abdominal ultrasound today confirmed an ulcer that can be contributing to the blood loss. They started treatment for that yesterday, so the hope is we will start to see some progress now. Her PCV was 27 yesterday after a transfusion and is 22 today. It is holding, but is still dropping just a little. As long as it doesn’t continue to drop, that’s a good sign. We are waiting on test results to determine if it is also immune-related anemia. Those results should come back in the next day or two. The next steps are to wait for pathology to come back with that report and to continue to monitor her red blood cell count. We gave the “okay” to do another blood transfusion if necessary. For today, no news is good news. So we will be anxiously waiting more updates tomorrow and on those test results as they come in. Through everything, everyone has said how sweet and patient Rhaenyra is. We just can’t wait to get her in a cozy home, too. Thank you so much for the support for this pretty girl. We still have a bit to go to cover her bills from this hospital and the last. But we know we’ve got this thanks to your help! Our sweet Rhaenyra is still at the hospital. She’s definitely an older girl and her body is showing it. She has severe hip dysplasia and some wear and tear along her spine. She got Librela, pain medications, and will get PT for now, with an FHO in the possible future depending how she does once in a foster home. The good news is her PCV is staying high at 31! So she is no longer anemic. She is in good spirits at the vet, but we are so ready for her to be able to rest and heal in a foster home. One of the absolute best parts of rescue has to be getting happy updates from adopters. We work so hard to save the lives of the dogs and cats in our care. We bond with every one of them. It can be so hard to let them go. So these updates mean the world. We rescued Bella the Great Dane back in January of 2022. Her adopters have always been incredible and send awesome updates. How fun are these pictures? We are so happy you’re living your best life, Bella girl! Thank you to all of our adopters. We know you are loving and caring for our babies, and please remember that there are never too many updates! #CFFbella #caitiesfosterfam #happytailsButton

Dogs like Rhaenyra get overlooked every day in Houston. An older girl, a mixed breed, unknown expensive medical issues going on. We’re so glad we get to be a part of her story changing. Even though she is safe with us now, it’s just the start of her journey. Rhaenyra is having a tough time. Her PCV is back down to 18 this morning (anemic) even after her blood transfusion. She needs a second blood transfusion today and will need to stay at the hospital longer. We aren’t sure what is causing her anemia. The goal is to get her PCV high and stable. And to hopefully get some answers to what is going on with her. Rhaenyra was a stray when Hurricane Beryl rolled into Houston. She was scared, alone, and needing help. Luckily, a kind family saw her in need and took her in. They did their best to keep her safe and cared for. They brought her to a vaccine clinic yesterday put on for the community where it was noted that she was in worse shape than they realized. After noticing her pale gums and inability to walk much on her own, they brought her into a vet hospital. Her bloodwork showed extreme anemia, and she needed a blood transfusion right away. They were unable to take all of this on, so a plea was sent out to rescues to see if anyone could take on her case. We agreed to help and rushed her last night to one of our partner hospitals. She’s there now receiving care and is part of our rescue family now. Thank you to the kind humans who took her in during the storm and held onto her until help came. We’ve got her now! Mufasa’s adopter, Emily, rescues mostly senior/hospice chihuahuas. She had some back to back losses, and her heart has been very heavy since losing Mufasa. So she decided to adopt a younger chihuahua this time, and we are over the moon for this adoption! Minnow (FKA Petrie) is now a Massachusetts resident and officially a part of her family! We first took in Minnow as a newborn puppy with no front legs and with a cleft lip. Her foster, Kourtney, did an amazing job getting her strong and healthy where her next foster, Stephanie, stepped in from there. Minnow learned to walk on her back legs and also scoot around as needed. She is a happy, playful, loving puppy who has been thriving thanks to her fosters. And now she is adopted. Emily, thank you for adopting our Texas chihuahuas who might need a little extra support. We couldn’t be more excited for this pairing. Happy tails, Minnow (FKA Petrie). Meet Torina! This sweet girl was on the euthanasia list but is now safe with one of our amazing fosters. We are excited to be adding another northern rescue partner,@lcarescue, to help us save more lives of Texas dogs. They are located in New York and will be working with us to take our adoption-ready dogs to find adopters up north. Torina is our fourth official pup heading to New York! It takes a team to save lives, and we are excited to be working with them. If you’re in the New York area looking for a new pup, make sure to check them out. #CFFtorina #caitiesfosterfamButton

Losing dogs will unfortunately always be a part of medical rescue. But goodness, it never gets easier. We lost our sweet Potato last week. Her fosters are especially devastated. We are heartbroken to lose her and can’t imagine the pain her fosters are feeling. Potato aspirated, and though her fosters immediately rushed her to an emergency vet, she did not make it. Her loss was nobody’s fault. Potato had congenital issues going on, and the fosters followed everything perfectly as the vet requested. As a foster, it’s so hard not to blame yourself- I’ve been there too many times myself. But Potato couldn’t have had better fosters to care for her for her short time here with us. To those fosters: thank you for bringing Potato into your home and your hearts. She was lucky to have you. Potato, I’m so glad we were here to give you a chance, and I’m so sorry your condition was just so horrible. May all of the CFF babies over there greet you with lots of tail wags. 🌈Button

Oh, Mufasa. We knew this day would come sooner than later, but we were really hoping for later. Mufasa was found starving, emaciated, and honestly looking unalive outside. We received death threats, emails, messages, letters, you name it over this dog. But we never gave up on him. He ended up gaining his weight back and becoming a happy dog who enjoyed cuddles on his own terms and even to play and hang out with his siblings. His foster mama spent so many days and hours in vet hospitals making sure he was given every chance. He enjoyed a comfortable life with blankies and any food he could want. He was then adopted by someone who works in the vet field and spent the last bit of his life with a mama who loved him so much. She even got Mufasa kisses from time to time. He ran around, played with others, loved to eat, sunbathed in the nice Massachusetts weather, snuggled under covers, enjoyed the beach, and was just so adored. Through all of his battles, he had a fighter spirit. He always showed us and the vets he wanted to keep going. But unfortunately, he finally let us know it was his time to go now. You were worth every minute of stress and every dollar spent. Thank you to his foster mama and adoptive mama. And to everyone who supported and sent love. We love you so much, Mufasa. I just know you were greeted so warmly across that rainbow bridge. Rest peacefully, our perfect grumpy boy. Our hearts are so broken to lose you but so full knowing how much love you were shown.Button

Luna Lovegood was found injured, full of mange, with burns on her back, and homeless on the streets. This tiny, 5-lb girl somehow survived a life of fear for who knows how long. But not anymore. Luna is now officially adopted! Seeing the pictures, videos, and stories of animals suffering due to human cruelty and irresponsibility is tough. People tell me all the time they feel like they need to unfollow because they can’t look at it. But choosing not to look at something doesn’t help make a change. So thank you for being here, sticking through the tough stories for the happy endings. Your support changes lives. Happy tails, Luna Lovegood. May you only know love for the rest of your life. #CFFlunalovegood #caitiesfosterfam #CFFhappytailsButton

Tiny girl Potato was released from the hospital and is home with her fosters! She is definitely doing well, all things considered. She’s still congested and getting breathing treatments. She is eating in an upright position to help with potential MegaEsophagus. She has had one minor vomiting/spit up case since coming home. But she’s a happy, cuddly baby girl! Here’s to hoping for continued progress and good news for her! Our sweet Potato girl is doing well today. She’s still at the hospital receiving around the clock care, but we are seeing progress. They were able to get Potato off oxygen and are seeing the pneumonia start to clear up. She’s eating on her own which is always the best news for a struggling puppy. Unfortunately, as we learn more, we are concerned that she could possibly have MegaEsophagus (ME). ME isn’t new to us, our intake Ace has ME. He was adopted and is doing great now. If it is ME, that would explain her aspiration pneumonia. Our plan is to continue her treatment for pneumonia and to treat her case as ME and then reevaluate after some time in a foster home. ME cases can be scary, but they are manageable. Can’t wait to see this tiny girl in a foster home once she’s released from the hospital. Mr. Luck has had a great few days, and he is doing so well now in his foster home! He really scared us there at the hospital. He still is so emaciated and on a strict refeeding plan, but he is headed in the right direction. We’ve raised about $3,000 of the $5,000 we paid for his emergency stay so every dollar donated is appreciated! Luna Lovegood is ready for adoption applications! Apply at caitiesfosterfam.org/adopt When we first rescued this tiny girl, she had burns and mange all over. She spent time at a vet to get her healing kickstarted, and she is already doing so well. She’s a snuggle bug who also loves to initiate play with the other dogs she’s met in her foster home. We’ve estimated her at just a couple years old, as she’s an adult but still has some puppy play energy. While we don’t know her breed, what we do know is she’s a perfect, small girl at only about 5 lbs. Luna still has a little healing to do, but we are ready to find her adopter and get the process started! She is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and Heartworm negative. Apply to meet her at caitiesfosterfam.org/adopt #CFFlunalovegood #caitiesfosterfam #adoptmeButton

Pictures just don’t do justice to show how bad of shape Mr. Luck is in. He’s so sick and is needing a second blood transfusion today. His body condition is so poor, he’s scaring us. After losing other emaciated cases like Cora and Roux, we are guarded. But we will always give them a chance. We are hoping his condition isn’t as bad as theirs was, but we will make sure he’s getting the best care no matter what. It’s a late Thursday night, and we just agreed to save this sweet boy. He found himself in need of a rescue at a vet hospital. They said he needed emergency help or he wouldn’t make the night. So we said yes. Meet Mr. Luck. He’s emaciated, anemic, and riddled with fleas. He needed an emergency blood transfusion, and we had to put down $5,000 in order to save his life tonight. URGENT HELP NEEDED! Last night, our rescue received an emergency message from a local salon who found this sweet girl wandering outside, covered in blood and in dire need of help. It appears she may have recently given birth, but unfortunately, no puppies were found. Despite her rough condition, she’s a fighter. We rushed her into urgent care at the hospital under our rescue. They found a microchip, but both numbers were disconnected. They asked us if we’d like to proceed either way, and we said of course. We have no way of knowing how she ended up in this condition, but whether or not she’s owned, she deserves and needs immediate medical care. We’ve named her Mabel. We’re covering all her medical expenses, but an emergency visit is never cheap. Your support and donations will help us continue providing her with the care and love she deserves. Big updates for our Luna Lovegood! She had a tough first few days at the vet. She needed a blood transfusion based on her levels upon arrival. Her skin is just in such rough shape she was having trouble opening her eyes. But the good news is she is feeling so much better today! She’s been hopping up on the vet staff for attention and greeting them at the door. Those eyes are open, and she is an excited pup. We also got the good news that she is Heartworm negative. Seeing new life and energy in her is the best. Pending all continues to go well, she will get to head to her foster on Monday! Can’t wait to see this girl progress more and more every day. #CFFlunalovegood #caitiesfosterfamButton

Luna Lovegood is doing well at the vet so far. Besides the obvious skin concerns, she is stable and doing okay. She did need a blood transfusion that we are hoping will really help lift her spirits. Who knows how long she was out on the streets. She is eating and drinking well. She’s a little shy but still so sweet. At only 5 pounds, she’s a very tiny girl. And she’s estimated only 2-2.5 years old. It’s crazy how much older dogs can look when they aren’t healthy. A little better every day, Luna Lovegood. We’ve got you. #CFFlunalovegood #caitiesfosterfamButton

GRAPHIC WARNING: this is what happens to stray dogs. This is the shape we find them in. The streets are not friendly to dogs, and they are not safe out there. Our newest intake is heartbreaking. “Skin issues” typically refer to mange or other similar infections. But this girl’s skin looks like she was burned. We know it’s hard to look at. But sharing their stories spreads the word and enables us to continue saving their lives. So thank you to everyone who is here. We can’t wait to share as she looks better. We have no idea what happened to her or how. But we have her now. She will see a vet, and things will only get better from here. Meet Luna Lovegood. Yesterday, we introduced you to Madison and Bronx. Today, meet their mama: Goldie Fawn. There is so much we could say about how frustrating situations like these are. How she was used for breeding then given up once they were no longer profiting off her. We’re honestly tired of being kind in our words about it. But let’s focus on the positive. Goldie Fawn is safe now. She will be spayed. She will get to enjoy her life as a loved pet. No more babies for her. Goldie Fawn has been a total sweetie in her foster home. We’re still getting to know her personality as she is given time to settle in and decompress. Once we know more, she will be looking for a home ready to love and spoil her for the rest of her life. She’s a total house hippo, squatty girl who will make someone a lucky family. #CFFgoldiefawn #caitiesfosterfam _ Reminder: we do not have contact with this breeder, and we do not know who they are. A third party reached out to us about them and did not give us their information. People will continue to backyard breed these dogs as long as people keep giving them money. Please don’t support backyard breeders. By buying a puppy from them, you’re ensuring they will keep doing it. If you want to help change laws, check out @thlntx and see how you can be the change.Button

Irresponsible breeding. You read about it all the time. You hear people talking about how horrible it is. But seeing the medical cases that come from it will rip your heart out. Meet Madison and Bronx. TLDR: they’re safe with us, and we also have their mama now. You might recognize these cuties from @thebottlebrigade who fostered them for us until weaned. Madison and Bronx are “micro bullies” bred to make someone money with no respect to their health. Both were surrendered when they were born with leg deformities. Bronx (chunky boy with blue eyes) had it easier: he had a bit of swimmer’s as a newborn but with proper care has grown out of it. He’s now a healthy, chunky boy. He will head to our rescue partners @gals.best.pal up north in Massachusetts end of next month to be adopted! So northeast friends, check out their page if you’re interested in adopting him! Madison was born with her intestines out and had a botched at-home suture job before coming to us that we had to have immediately medically repaired at a hospital. She has orthopedic and cardio issues that have become more apparent as she’s grown. Today she saw another vet and got a referral for cardio. While she is a medical mess, she is happy. She loves to play, eat, and snuggle. Her foster mama has already decided she can’t let her go, so she will be staying with her forever (scroll to the end for her adoption pic with another CFF alum, Dorian). Since she still has a slew of medical and an unknown future, we as a rescue will continue to cover her medical costs through this. As long as she continues to show quality of life, we are taking it one step at a time. We do not have contact with this breeder, and we do not know who they are. A third party reached out to us to see if we could take the pups. That is who also reached out about their mama. And we are so beyond happy she is now safe with us and won’t ever have to be bred again. Stay tuned for mama Goldie Fawn’s own post! Another amazing transformation for your Tuesday: sweet Jules. This beautiful girl was found in a container with both of her front legs broken. After an extended vet stay and multiple surgeries to repair the legs, she has come such a long way and is doing amazing! She had another repeat x-ray yesterday to check on her healing, and it looks great. She loves to play with her dog foster siblings and get brushed by her human foster sister. She knows “kennel” and has a wonderful potty routine. Jules is further proof of how many absolutely incredible dogs there are in rescue. You’d never know everything she has been through. We are working through adoption applications for Jules now, so make sure to get your application in if you haven’t already! What a great way to end Mother’s Day- with Matilda officially heading home with her new adoptive mama. We hope everyone who celebrates had an amazing day, too! Matilda came into our care with a large tumor. We had it removed and biopsied and received devastating news that she has cancer. We are treating and will continue to provide her with the best medical care. But now she gets to spend her remaining days with her new mama and family. We are so happy for you, Matilda! Thank you to everyone for your donations that enable us to support dogs like Matilda through their hospice days. And thank you to everyone who applied to adopt Matilda. When a shelter partner sends you a video of the cutest squatty girl with her tongue sticking out in need of a rescue, what else can you say but “when can we pick her up”? meet Cocoa. She’s safe with us now but ready to find her forever! caitiesfosterfam.org/adopt Cocoa is a 4-year old bully mix who found herself at a shelter with a prolapse. She had it surgically repaired during her spay, and she has been doing very well medically since then. She’s a tiny, low-rider with a goofy personality. Matilda is a very sweet, 6-year-old French Bulldog who is looking for a hospice adopter. You supply the loving home, and we cover the financial side as a rescue. Apply at caitiesfosterfam.org/adopt Matilda was recently diagnosed with grade 3 mast cell cancer. She is now undergoing chemo. Her prognosis is not great, but the oncologist feels she has some time left and a high quality of life. Because of this, we are looking for someone to adopt Matilda while the rescue will continue to financially cover the costs of her cancer treatment. Our oncology vets are located in Houston and/or Austin, so in order to cover costs, we require adopters who are able to drive to one of those oncologists as needed. Her chemo is currently pill, so she is not needing weekly visits. We don’t know the exact amount of time that Matilda has left. But she is such a good, fun girl. She loves people and has been great with all the other dogs she’s met. We know it’s hard to find adoptive homes for healthy dogs, let alone those with cancer. But Matilda deserves a happily ever after for whatever time she does have left. If you’re considering giving Matilda a home, please apply at caitiesfosterfam.org/adopt. We are happy to discuss any questions with an applicant and approved applicants can schedule a meet and greet prior to proceeding with adoption. If you aren’t looking to adopt, please consider sharing to help us find Matilda a family. #CFFmatilda #caitiesfosterfam #adoptme #hospiceadoptionButton

The rumors are true: French Bulldogs are now overflowing in rescues. We turn away so many every week because we just can’t keep up, and we try to keep our focus on the more medical and special needs. But it’s never-ending. So meet adoptable Pinky! Please read all information first and apply to adopt at caitiesfosterfam.org/adopt Pinky is an 8-month-old French Bulldog who was surrendered to our rescue with suspected Hydrocephalus. She has been asymptomatic and is not on any medications. She’s smaller than the average Frenchie for her age, but she’s a typical happy, playful pup. She is spayed and ready to be adopted, so local and out of state applications will be considered. We ask any potential adopter do their research on the condition before applying as we can’t guarantee she won’t start showing symptoms later in life. Please mention her condition in your application to be considered for adoption. Start the process at caitiesfosterfam.org/adopt #CFFpinky #caitiesfosterfamButton

Yesterday, Amelia’s foster posted a sweet update we want to share! “One week with my sweet Amelia Bones. She’s definitely in better spirits these days, except for being big mad at me for soaking her in medicated shampoo tonight. Her scabs have all fallen off, and her skin is no longer red and inflamed. Amelia loves meal time and nap time. I love her little teeny tiny steps as she walks around the backyard. She’s just so smol and cuteeee! She is still in decompression time as we let her heal without being afraid of the other dogs in her space. When she is ready, we’ll eventually let her meet our dogs. It’s National Adopt A Shelter Pet Day, and Jack Sparrow is a shelter rescue still looking for a home! Apply for Jack Sparrow at caitiesfosterfam.org/adopt We aren’t sure why our sweet Jack keeps being overlooked. He’s an amazing boy. He loves to play. He is healthy, neutered, and Heartworm negative. He romps around with the other dogs in his foster home. He spent two weeks with a trainer to learn how to be an even better dog with the best manners. He has been learning agility courses at his foster home. All that he’s missing? A forever family. Last July, Jack Sparrow found himself in a local shelter, sick and underweight. His foster parents saved him and took him home to heal. We agreed to back him and help him find an adoptive family. He has a few scars on his back that he’ll carry with him forever, but he is now a very healthy and happy boy. He’s an amazing dog, and we cannot wait to find him a home. Meet Rori! This tiny girl was rescued alongside her litter, who are now also all safe. However, she was having trouble standing and walking. She was covered in fleas and had a heavy parasite load. We agreed to help and take on her case since she potentially needed some extra medical support. Well, she sure showed everyone! With proper care, Rori is thriving. She is a normal, happy, healthy puppy now. She runs and plays and is such a sweet girl. We do not see any lasting, long-term effects. She is now 8 weeks old and ready for adoption applications! She is believed to be a medium-ish sized dog, but we do not know her breeds. What we do know is she is fluffy and adorable and deserves a great home! Apply to adopt Rori at caitiesfosterfam.org/adopt You can also come meet Rori at @houstonpetsalive Adoption Palooza this Saturday! She’ll be there at noon! Smokey isn’t a major medical case like most of ours, but his story really hit us, and we wanted to give him a chance at a new start. Meet Smokey the 3-year old Standard Poodle. Smokey was owned his whole life. He loved his family and was well cared for. Unfortunately, his owner fell on tough medical times, so he needed somewhere to go. Smokey loves his humans and wants to be near you all the time. He has had a blast with all the other dogs he’s met, both big and small. He listens well to commands. Since he’s been through a lot over the past month, he gets a little anxious when left alone. His ideal home is someone who works from home or has other pups he can hang out with free roam when the parents are at work. He will love you endlessly and is such a good boy. He is Heartworm negative, neutered, and vaccinated. He can be adopted locally or out of state. Can you help give Smokey a second chance? Our sick Parvo girl Mili is now a happy, typical floppy hound puppy! And her adoption application is officially open at caitiesfosterfam.org/adopt Mili came to us extremely sick and lethargic. She was vomiting and tested positive for Parvo. After hospitalization and the new Parvo treatment, she turned a corner so quickly. She is now romping around her foster home, Parvo free and ready to be adopted! She’s a typical pup- loves to play and cuddle. Her foster says she’s doing great with potty training and sleeps well in her kennel. She’s estimated to be about 3.5 months old and is a “beagle mix.” Parvo is a preventable but extremely contagious virus. It can live in soil and other porous surfaces for over a year in our warm Texas climate. That means even if you don’t see any other dogs around, your pup can catch it. To help keep your pups safe: avoid any public ground (floor of vet clinics, any public grass including front yards, etc) until at least a week after your pup is fully vaccinated. “Fully vaccinated” means 3-4 rounds of Distemper/Parvo vaccine as determined by your veterinarian. We know it’s tempting to take them everywhere, but it’s not worth it! You can socialize your puppy with known, vaccinated dogs inside homes or fenced backyards. Luckily Mili is now negative, so she is not contagious to your pups! Apply to adopt Mili at caitiesfosterfam.org/adopt #CFFmili #caitiesfosterfam #adoptmeButton

Our Mili girl is a total survivor! She has been doing great in her medical foster home. She has been eating well and even showing some spunk, which is huge. And yesterday, Mili had a negative Parvo test! She’s not completely out of the woods, but we are absolutely on the right path. We love to see her slowly starting to act more like a puppy. You’ve got this, Mili. #CFFmili #caitiesfosterfam #parvosurvivorButton

Starting today off with some good news! Mili has been doing incredibly well with Parvo treatment. She is now eating and drinking on her own, though still fewer amounts, and is switched to oral medication. She is having less diarrhea and overall looking better, though her puppy dog eyes make it hard to tell here. Today she will head to a Parvo medical foster to make sure she stays on the right path for her recovery. Once she tests negative, we will consider her a Parvo survivor, which will likely be a few more weeks. This is already such great progress for our little girl. #CFFmili #caitiesfosterfamButton

Today has been a whirlwind. Mili has Parvo. She has been hospitalized for treatment since her intake Thursday night. Though she tested negative initially, we saw all the symptoms. Her test today was positive. We are so thankful she found her way to us when she did. Every minute counts when it comes to treating Parvo. Parvo is such an uphill battle, but we’re here for her. She got the new Parvo monoclonal antibody treatment as soon as we found out, and she has already shown improvement. She will stay hospitalized until we are sure she’s stable and ready to move to a medical foster. From here we are hoping for increased appetite and energy. We can’t wait to see her acting like a puppy. Her treatment has exceeded $4,000 in emergency bills so far. Every donation helps! To donate to Mili: Venmo @ caitiesfosterfam Cashapp $caitiesfosterfam PayPal.me/caitiesfosterfam Caitiesfosterfam.org/donate Parvo is preventable. It is a horrible and extremely contagious virus that can live in soil over a year. Puppies like Mili shouldn’t have to suffer like this. Oh, Mili. Just the cutest little girl. We don’t have any answers yet. Her x-rays were clear, no obstructions seen. Which is good news, but we are hoping for some answers soon to be able to help her. Worms and parasites can absolutely wreak havoc on a young pup, so she is being treated and tested for them. We just need her to turn a corner and start showing some increased energy and interest in food. They added an abdominal ultrasound today, so hopefully we can get some answers or improvement soon for the sweet girl. We had a late emergency rescue overnight- meet Mili. Anytime a puppy is lethargic and refusing food, there is immediate cause for concern. A foster reached out about this 3-month old baby she rescued with major worries and needing her seen right away. We agreed to take her on and rushed her right to the hospital. Mili is weak, extremely dehydrated, not wanting to stand, and refusing food and water. We are told she was throwing up worms before she made it to the hospital. She’s been getting fluids since last night, started dewormer, and they are currently doing all the diagnostics. Her Parvo test was negative. Though it could pop positive later on, we are hoping that’s not the case. Right now they’re worried she possibly got into some kind of toxin before coming to us. Without knowing what, we have to just keep fighting for her and hoping for the best. Mili will stay hospitalized while the staff works diligently to save her. We will keep everyone updated as we know more. Come on, Mili. You’ve got a whole community rooting for you now! Matilda came to us with a large mass on her hind end. We had no idea what it was, but we agreed to take on her case no matter the result. We had the mass surgically removed and biopsied. Unfortunately, we got the worst news: it came back as a grade 3 mast cell tumor. The vet referred us to an oncologist where she will head to next week. We will likely proceed with chemo, pending the oncologist’s advice. But we promised her we’d be right here for her, so we will do whatever is best to help her fight this. We’ve got you, Matilda. There are days when rescue feels daunting, then there are days like today. When the world reminds you how wonderful people can be. When an adult pittie mix rescued from the streets of Houston with mange gets adopted into an incredible family who drove a long distance just for her. And she even has an Instagram @nash.and.eefs Congratulations to Aoife and her new family. Thank you so much for choosing to adopt her. And to her foster mama for not hesitating to pick her up and love her until she was ready to head to her adopters. Enjoy your happily ever after, sweet girl. #CFFaoife #caitiesfosterfam #CFFhapptailsButton

Shamrock says “Happy Easter, everyone!” Whenever we have a dog, like Shamrock, found in terrible condition, alone and on the streets, we are always extra thankful on holidays. Thankful they get to spend these days safe, warm, and loved now. Shamrock is doing great in her foster home. We are still learning more about her medical, but she will be available for adoption once we feel she’s ready, hopefully soon! Thank you for helping us care for these sweet babies, so they can spend days like today in loving homes. #CFFshamrock #caitiesfosterfamButton

It’s time for a Shamrock update! This lovely gal has definitely not had it easy. She was the matted baby found on a porch, barely even able to see through all the fur. She is doing very well with her amazing fosters, but has a ways to go. She recently had her cardiology visit where we learned a few things: she has mild heart disease and a grade 3 of 6 heart murmur. The good news is the cardiologist does not feel either need to be addressed further at this time, and she is not needing heart medication. Shamrock is feeling a little better every day, though. Her levels have stabilized, so the vet feels her Addison’s is being managed well with the medication now. However, she is still battling diarrhea for unknown reasons. We will be following up with internal medicine soon to check on this and concerns with her coughing/lungs. They also don’t think the walking is actually due to the Addison’s since her levels have improved but her walking has not. She can walk on her own, but she slips and struggles a bit. We are continuing to support her while going through diagnostics and therapy. We’ll do whatever it takes for this girl. #CFFshamrock #caitiesfosterfamButton

Exciting Jules update! We say it all the time, but dogs are just so resilient! Jules had a successful second surgery on the other leg this week, and she is getting a little better every day. She’s doing so well that she is busting out of the hospital and heading to her foster home today! Jules still has a long road of recovery. She had surgical repairs for fractures on both front legs. She will be on kennel rest for about 8 weeks while she heals. Her bandages will require daily changes for a bit. Her sweet personality is already starting to show through the pain. When we first rescued her, she was all growls and who could blame her? Seeing them finally start to relax and realize they’re going to be okay is incredible. Now to rest and heal in a comfy bed, sweet girl. #CFFjules #caitiesfosterfamButton

We weren’t kidding when we said we took in a lot of medical cases last week- meet Aurora! This sweet girl is just a puppy and was found last week unable to use her back leg. The finder brought her home to help, but she quickly started vomiting. The next day when we saw a post about her, we offered to help. So we took over care and rushed her to the hospital. Luckily, they were able to get her vomiting to stop and no blockages were seen in radiographs. However, her leg showed multiple old fractures that had healed incorrectly. Because of this, her leg was healed straight outwards, and she lost use of it. The fractures were beyond repair, and the vet recommended an amputation to get this girl on a good path. Her amputation surgery went well, and she is now resting in a foster home. At just 6 months old, she’s already adjusting quickly and is full of love and kisses. Here’s to her new beginning! Aurora’s hospital bills are attached for transparency. The first was the emergency stay when we were unsure what was happening with her vomiting and broken leg. The second is from her amputation surgery. Thank you in advance for your support! We love to be able to show these dogs a new life. Jules was found in a container with two broken front legs and covered in wounds. She has been at the vet hospital since last week. She had one successful repair surgery on one leg and has been waiting for a bit before having a second. She is doing a little better every day! Her wounds and infections are really clearing up, and she is sweet as ever. She has been standing on her own and attempting to take steps, though her activity is being limited. Her surgically repaired leg is healing well so far. Now that the infections are so much better, she is set to have the repair surgery on her other front leg today. Our hope is that the second surgery goes as well as her first one and that she can head to a foster home to rest and heal in the next day or two. Send good vibes to the vet staff for a smooth surgery! A belated Happy St. Patrick’s Day from one of our newest saves, Aoife (pronounced ee-fa). This sweet girl was posted wandering and needed obvious help for her skin. She has a rough case of mange going on, but she is otherwise a healthy, happy girl. We are so happy to have this girl and see her safe and off the streets. #CFFaoife #caitiesfosterfamButton

Our sweet Heidi had surgery to address a hernia and her hematoma on her ear. She’s back with her foster now and recovering well. To address her leg: the leg is not functional and cannot be “fixed.” She will never have proper use of the leg. Y’all know us and know we spare no expense to do what is best for the dog, so we would of course choose a different surgical route if it was possible. We are getting vet advice before making any final decisions, but the most likely best route for her will be full amputation of the limb. That way she can be on her way to healing and being the cutest little tripod! We have also gotten a lot of adoption interest so far on her. She is not yet receiving adoption applications as we want to learn more about her and handle the medical first. She will be available locally and out of state when we open the applications, so make sure to stay tuned for her updates if you’re interested! #CFFheidi #caitiesfosterfamButton

Jules first surgery went smoothly! Graphic warning for surgical sites and sutures. Once she was sedated for surgery, they were able to get a better look at the wounds on her front legs, and what they saw was way worse than expected. Not only are both of her front legs broken, but there are also majorly infected wounds and punctures. They took longer on the first (right) leg to make sure they cleaned the infection and then surgically repaired it with a plate. They are going to let her rest over the weekend and give additional antibiotics, fluids, and wound care to help flush infections. Hopefully the weekend goes well and then they can repair her left leg next week. A huge thank you to the vet staff for taking their time to make sure she receives proper care to set her healing up for success. She is not out of the woods by any means, but every positive step is progress! Meet the newest member of the rescue family: Jules. Jules was found in a container, in her own urine, and injured. She was terrified, growling, and clearly in so much pain. Our team found out about her and swooped right in to help. We got her to an emergency vet right away to figure out what was going on. Once shaved down, you could see bite marks all over her body and other injuries. The x-rays were heartbreaking: both of her front legs are broken. After making sure she was stable, we moved Jules over to an orthopedic surgeon where she is now. The goal is to surgically repair both legs, which could take multiple surgeries. Jules is having a tough time right now, but she is in good hands. As always, we are thankful for your support helping us save the more medical babies. We couldn’t do it without your donations! Meet adoptable Mason! This sweet boy is an 8-month old Dachshund who is all puppy and all love! If you’ve been looking for your next hot dog companion but wanting to rescue, he’s your boy! Apply to adopt Mason at caitiesfosterfam.org/adopt Mason is a very good boy. He loves to play with his foster sister and snuggle his foster mama, though it took some time for him to be besties with a big dog since he’s so small. He does well in his kennel while foster mom works and sleeps in it overnight without a sound. Typical to the breed, he might take a little time to fully potty train, but he’s worth the effort! If you’re ready for all that puppy energy and training entails, head on over and fill out an application to bring this cutie home! caitiesfosterfam.org/adopt #CFFmason #caitiesfosterfam #adoptmeButton

Shamrock busted out of the hospital and is now settling into her foster home! She’s such a cute, small girl. Her walking is already improving, so we are hopeful it will only continue to get better with time and physical therapy. Shamrock looks like a different dog now that she’s been shaved. I bet she is so relieved to have those mats removed! She was sent home with medication to manage her Addison’s diagnosis. They also noted a mildly enlarged heart in x-rays, so we will follow up with a cardiology visit to ensure nothing further needed to address that. We do not know who “owned” Shamrock or how she came to be in this condition since she was found as a stray. This is a reminder of just how cruel the streets are to dogs. Thankful we are able to show her the good life from now on! To donate to Shamrock: Venmo @ caitiesfosterfam PayPal.me/caitiesfosterfam caitiesfosterfam.org/donate #CFFshamrock #caitiesfosterfamButton

Quick Shamrock update! She is a girl estimated to be a 2-year-old Shih Tzu. She is doing okay all considered but having a tough time. Her foster mama got to head up to visit her today, and she is just the cutest pup. Shamrock was found by some kind people who said she wandered up to their porch, which is unfortunately not an uncommon situation in Houston. Thankfully, they reached out for help and we saw a post about her on Facebook. We agreed to help, and she headed right to a vet hospital. Some good news: she’s considered stable. She’s a very sweet girl, and she seems alert and spunky. She’s not emaciated, and she seems overall like she will thrive with good care from here on, Some not so great news: she has been diagnosed with Addison’s. Her lungs sound awful. She is struggling to stand up or walk. It’s clear she has feeling in her back legs, but we just aren’t sure what all is happening on her hind end just yet. The vet staff are running additional diagnostics and will continue to update us. But she’s a lucky girl because she’s safe and loved now. Welcome to the foster fam, Shamrock. Who remembers the mamma Candy and her singlet baby Cane we saved from the city shelter right before the winter holidays?! Well mama Candy has officially been adopted! Scroll through to watch how much Cane has grown. Candy found herself in the city shelter unknowingly pregnant. She surprised the staff and gave birth to two puppies, one surviving. The shelter is a dangerous place for a newborn puppy with no immune system, so we agreed to take on mama and her baby. They thrived in foster care together. Once Cane was weaned, he went to foster with other playful young dogs so he could learn proper socializing since he didn’t have littermates to learn from. Candy just transported to our rescue partners, Gal’s Best Pal, in Massachusetts where she had an incredible adoptive family waiting on her, and it was love at first sight. Cane will be headed up to Massachusetts as well at the end of March. Live near Massachusetts and interested in adopting Cane? Go follow our partners’ page to fill out an application with them: @gals.best.pal. We absolutely love seeing people from our social community up north adopt some of our southern pups. Thankful for you all helping us save more lives! Happy tails, Candy and Cane! #CFFcandy #CFFcane #caitiesfosterfam #CFFhappytailsButton

ADOPT ME: Imani the special needs French Bulldog puppy is now ready to receive adoption applications! She is available locally or out of state, but please make sure to read all info here and in her bio before applying in order to be considered. Imani is a 4-month old pup who came to us with a condition called atresia ani. This means she had only one opening for her urine and bowel movements. This condition can cause UTIs and other infections. We agreed to take on her case. She saw a specialist who set a date for her surgery. She has now successfully received atresia ani surgical reconstruction to create a second opening and reroute her bowel movements. It was very successful, and she is doing amazing! She will have one follow up procedure first week of March. After this, she will be ready to be adopted! Currently, Imani is not showing signs of incontinence. However, post-adoption, the adopter must be prepared to take on any possible complications or future needs Imani could need. We cannot guarantee what her prognosis with the condition is, but we do know she is thriving right now! So we ask any adopter to be understanding that she is, in fact, a special needs pup and will need some special care! Right now that consists of wiping her with baby wipes and that’s about it! We hope the ease of her care and her success continues throughout. To apply for Imani, fill out an application here: caitiesfosterfam.org/adopt and make sure to note when prompted that you understand her medical! #CFFimani #caitiesfosterfam #adoptmeButton

Losing a medical dog in the rescue is never easy. It is so devastating to pour our hearts into saving a pup, just for them to be too far gone by the time we got them. It’s hard to share the news and hard to live it. But we would do it all over again every time. Because when we give dogs a chance, many have the most amazing transformations, just like some of our favorite cases pictured here. In order of images: Frank Sinatra, Juneau, Francesca, Noori, Carver, Kodiak, Rhaegal, Mufasa, Corduroy, and Mina. All of these pups are medical cases we saved and are now thriving with adopters. These are not even close to the hundreds more lives we have saved. But they represent so many of the dogs that people might have seen as a “difficult case” to rescue. We founded this rescue to help the ones who might need a bit of extra medical care. And we are so proud of the work we’ve done. Thank you to everyone who shared kind words over our loss of Roux. We read all of them. Thank you to our fosters, volunteers, and supporters who make this happen. It’s been a rough few days, but we’re ready to save some more lives! #CFFtransformations #CFFhappytails #caitiesfosterfamButton

We tried, Roux. We would have given you the world if we could. We are so sorry that humans let you down. Rest peacefully, beautiful girl. Roux was so emaciated and so broken down by the time she came to our care. We have no idea how long she was like this or why nobody got her care before. As we do with every dog that comes to us, we immediately got her medical care and followed closely with vet advice every day. We sought out a second opinion and even took Roux to a specialty hospital today. We wanted to make sure that we gave every ounce of effort for her. After talking to the specialists and getting a few more answers about her condition, we made the heart wrenching decision that at this point she was suffering. So we made the hardest decision of all: to let Roux’s suffering end. She was laid to rest while I held her and made sure she knew how loved she was. I hope you are enjoying the best food and cuddles over the rainbow bridge, sweet Roux. We love you so much. _ As a medical rescue, we get so many opinions about these types of cases. When we founded this rescue, we had a goal to help those that need us most which means a lot of them are extreme medical. We never make any decision lightly. And we ask that people refrain from pushing for euthanasia in the comments. Although that was the final outcome here, there were many in person conversations with vets that had to be done first to weigh all options. We have had many cases come back from extreme situations and then live amazing lives. And in some cases like this, they are just too far gone. But thank you for supporting us to give them a chance. We don’t regret any moment of our efforts for Roux.Button

Roux is hanging in there at the vet. At this point, the staff are just doing everything they can to help her turn a corner while also trying to figure out the root cause of all her symptoms. She is eating well but is full of gas. Her red blood cell count is low and not maintaining after a blood transfusion. She is weak and lethargic and not maintaining her body heat. They are running labs, x-rays, and sending out further testing. When she was surrendered, they did not receive a lot of medical background on her. So at 7 years old, we have no idea if she was just starved for food or if there is an underlying condition. But what we do know is we’re doing everything we can to find answers. She’s in great hands. Hopefully we will see some progress soon and can learn more how to best help her. All we want is her to feel better and enjoy the rest of her life loved. Our cutie butt Zuul is thriving! And he’s ready to find his forever. Apply to adopt Zuul at caitiesfosterfam.org/adopt Zuul is a sweet, squatty boy. He’s a bulldog mix around 50 lbs of short chunkiness and estimated about 4-5 years old. He is a total goof who loves to play. He hasn’t met a stranger or human he didn’t love more than anything. He is fostered with dogs and cats and loves his fur foster siblings so much. He’s a good boy in his crate and makes the cutest hops into it excitedly for meal time. Zuul recently had a few surgeries to help set him up for success: stenotic nare repair to help him breathe better, entropion repair for his eyes, and neuter surgery. He is doing amazing from all of them and feels like a new boy who can breathe! He had mange when we first rescued him, but he has healed beautifully. As with most bulldogs, any adopter should expect to give extra medical care for his skin for his life. But he is a healthy, happy boy now. Help us find Zuul a home to call his own: apply at caitiesfosterfam.org/adopt #CFFzuul #caitiesfosterfam #adoptmeButton

Our perfect babies Genghis, Beanie, and Wilbert officially made it to Chicago today! They are safe with our rescue partners (and good friends) at @dtranimalfoundation. Our rescue team spent a lot of time and hard work to get these three to the medically stable and healthy point they are now. And we are so thankful for the next part of their journeys. Getting adoptable dogs out of Texas and to northern states allows us to continue to save more lives. There are so so many dogs in need of homes here, including plenty more frenchies in need every day. It takes teamwork to save lives, and we love this team. Thank you to @ajc_rescue_n_transport for always transporting our babies safely! #CFFgenghis #CFFbeanie #CFFwilbert #caitiesfosterfamButton

We could write a long caption about how angry we are that humans let dogs get to this point. About how horrific her body condition is. About how awful she must feel and the pain she’s been through. But let’s focus on where she goes from here. From today, her life is only good. Meet Roux. Roux is an 8-year old French Bulldog who was brought in and surrendered to an emergency vet in this condition. From there, the vet hospital had us take over ownership. We may never know her full story. But we will help write her future. And her future is so bright. She’s getting so much love, a comfortable place to sleep, and some yummy foods. She will never go without food again. She will never be bred again. She will never know what it’s like to be without love again. The vets working with Roux are hopeful that she is on a good path now. We know how quickly dogs in this condition can go downhill, so she will stay at the hospital for a few days for 24/7 care and to watch for refeeding syndrome. We will continue to be optimistic and hope for the best outcome and promise to update on this sweet girl. Malibu popping in with the best news: her masses were NOT cancer! The pathology results came back that all masses are benign and removal should be curative. Margins all clear.
